(February 21, 2012) P & G and KidSport Canada Stand Up For Youth Sports -  Procter & Gamble (P&G), in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee, announced its sponsorship of KidSport Canada, a national not-for-profit organization that helps underprivileged kids participate in organized sports. This initiative is part of a global program through which P&G is showing its commitment to youth sport and helping inspire the next generation of moms of Canadian athletes.

"A great champion is not born overnight; it takes time, dedication and love and support," said Thom Lachman, President, Procter & Gamble Canada. "Moms give so much to see their children achieve their dreams and a helping hand for them can go a long way. This is why P&G is standing up for youth sports and partnering with KidSport Canada; it is our way of saying thank you mom."

(February 2, 2012) Brain Injury Prevention in Team Sports in Canada - ThinkFirst Pensez d’Abord Canada (TFC) has announced their collaboration with The Canadian Centre for Ethics and Sport (CCES), Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), Hockey Canada on a national project aimed at reducing brain injuries in team sports in Canada as part of the federal government’s Active and Safe Initiative. (February 2, 2012) Ontario Basketball Celebrates Black History Month -  Ontario Basketball (OBA) announced Tuesday its celebration of Black History Month throughout the month of February. (February 1, 2012) Ontario Disc Sports Annouces New Executive Director - The Ontario Disc Sport Association (ODSA) today announced the appointment of Jeremy Renaud to the position of Executive Director. Mr Renaud brings a wealth of sports and marketing experience to the Association. As part of the team, his mandate will be to execute the Board of Director’s ambitious plans for the growth of disc sports, namely Ultimate and Disc Golf, throughout the province of Ontario over the course of the next few years. (January 20, 2012) Statement from Holly Abraham regarding death of Canadian Athlete Sarah Burke - The following statement was issued today by Sport Alliance Ontario Chair, Holly Abraham:

"On behalf of Sport Alliance Ontario, we would like to send our condolences to Sarah Burke’s family and friends.  The loss of an incredible young women, exceptional athlete and advocate for sport in Ontario, Canada and the World is devastating.  Sarah is a role model for so many young athletes and will continue to have a significant impact on the future of sport in Ontario."

(December 7, 2011) Return To Play - Are Your Athletes At Risk?- How can physical activity help reduce the incidence of injury in sport? Do helmets prevent concussions?How can coaches and parents minimize the risks for our athletes?
Navigating the current landscape of sport safety among current news headlines was the topic of conversation on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Barrie Shepley, Coaches Association of Ontario Vice-Chair and a National Triathlon Coach sat down with Dr. Susan L. Forbes, a leading Canadian expert on sport safety to make sense of the headlines and research bombarding the public airwaves. (November 29, 2011) Sport Canada Supports KidSport Canada – Sport Canada announced a contribution of $200,000 in 2011 to KidSport™ Canada to provide funding for youth across Canada to get healthy and physically active by participating in organized sport. Pete Quevillon, Director of KidSport British Columbia and Chair of the KidSport Canada Operations Committee says, “This infusion of support will allow the national organization to provide leadership and support to our provincial and community chapters that is critical to the continued growth of KidSport.” Nationally, over 50,000 kids received grants ranging from $200 to $500 to pay for registrations fees or equipment in 2010. The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport) made the announcement on Friday, November 25th, at the 2011 Vanier Cup Championship Breakfast in Vancouver. To read more, click here.

(November 28, 2011) Counting Down to the 2012 Ontario Winter Games - The countdown to the 2012 Ontario Winter Games kicks off next Tuesday November 29th, exactly 100 days from the first day of competition. (November 28, 2012) 2012 Ontario 55+ Summer Games Launches Website – The City of Brampton is the host of the 2012 Ontario 55+ Summer Games, which will be held from August 14 to 16. The games will include over 400 volunteers and more than 1300 participants & officials participating in 18 scheduled events over a two day period. 40th Anniversary Celebration a Huge Success at Sport Alliance Ontario - On Thursday November 4th, over 100 leaders in sport and recreation joined in to celebrate the inaugural Ontario Sport Administration Wall of Honour Induction, coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of Sport Alliance Ontario. 
The original “Sport Centre” concept was hatched following a landmark conference which was held in late 1968 at the Guildwood Inn in Scarborough.  At that time the well-known sport and recreation visionary, Bob Secord, proposed to the 48 provincial sport organizations that attended, that Ontario required a new plan for sport development – one that included a centralized “home for sports”. (September 19, 2011) Stability on Judo Ontario Board of Directors – The Annual General Meeting of Judo Ontario was held September 18, 2011 at its offices in Toronto. Under the constitution that was adopted last year, one half of the Board must stand for election each year. (September 15, 2011) 250 Ontario Coaches Celebrate Sport’s Day in Canada at the NCCP Super Clinic This Weekend – Over 250 Coaches from across the province will gather under one roof this weekend in Unionville – September 16-18th to enhance their skills and expertise. (August 16, 2011) City of Toronto to host the 2012 Ontario Summer Games – The countdown to the 2012 Ontario Summer Games began today at Toronto City Hall with the official launch celebration of the year-away milestone. The City of Toronto will host the Games from August 16 to 19, 2012, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport, the Sport Alliance of Ontario, the Toronto Sports Council and Tourism Toronto.
