| The Rolf Lund Jule Nisse Award |
The Rolf Lund Jule Nisse Award was named posthumously in honour of Rolf Lund, past Chair of the Sport Alliance Ontario, awarded to the volunteer who has made a "playground to podium" commitment to sport. The honouree would have served as a coach, official, a member of a mission team and served as a board member, with no expectation of return.
Rolf Lund was known as a very strong supporter of grassroots development of sports in Canada, filling several different positions within sport in Ontario and Canada. Rolf Lund was a person who gave to sport without ever expecting or wanting anything in return. To Rolf, life was about honouring and helping others realize their potential, about providing an opportunity or memory for those who may not have normally experienced. This award is and will continue to be a way to celebrate Rolf Lund’s gift of giving and the spirit of the Jule Nisse.
"Jule Nisse" is a mythical figure celebrated throughout Nordic culture. The "Jule Nisse" watches over the "family" throughout the year and rewards them for good actions at year's end, seeking nothing in return but the joy of helping others. For award criteria, click here.
